Double Glaze Timber Windows

Triple glaze timber windows

Low-E glass

Like many other types of glass, Low-E glass is a standard clear glass. The difference with Low-E glass is that is has a special coating on one side of the glass surface. This coating is meant to reduce the transfer of heat, keeping your home and the surface of your windows, at an even temperature year-round.

This coating keeps heat both in and out of your home. During the winter, it keeps the long wave infrared heat made by bodies, furniture, and your heater inside your home so you don’t have to run the furnace as long. In the summer, you can count on this glass to reduce the amount of short wave infrared heat generated by the sun coming into your home. The reduction of heat transfer with these windows is roughly 30 per cent and will even help to reduce the impact of light damage to your furniture resulting from UV rays.

Toughened glass

Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, is a type of glass that has been strengthened through a chemical or thermal treatment. It is also known as safety glass. Unlike normal glass, toughened glass does not splinter into dangerous shards when it is broken. Instead, this type of glass crumbles, making it less likely to cause injuries in the result of an accident. While toughened glass is most often used in showers and automobiles, it can also be practical for your home.

You may choose to use toughened glass in some areas of your home as an escape route in case of an emergency, such as a fire. In these areas, the glass would be easy to break and would not present a hazard. In areas where the window is close to the floor or other hazards exist; this type of glass may also be a useful alternative to other types of glass.

Obscured glass

Obscured glass is quickly gaining in popularity because it is versatile, has many practical benefits, and because it has distinctive characteristics that can add to the style and luxury of your period or modern home. There are four main types of obscured glass, which are:

  • Tinted glass—darkened to make it more difficult to see inside
  • Reflective glass—acts like a mirror
  • Frosted—a thin sheet of colour is added to the inside of the pane to reduce visibility
  • Textured—the glass has been twisted or maligned to create a pattern that reduces visibility

The main practical benefit of obscured glass is that it reduces the ability of outside persons to see into your home. This can help deter burglars and other unwanted parties. Additionally, these types of glass can reduce the amount of light and heat that transfers into your home, which may help to decrease your energy costs.

UV filter glass

UV Filter glass is one of the many helpful types of glass that you can have installed into your windows to increase your comfort and reduce your energy costs. If you’ve ever experienced sun damage to your home and this is a primary concern for you, then UV filter glass may be able to help resolve this problem for you. Ultra-Violet Light is approximately 40 per cent responsible for the damage caused to your home and belongings by light. Infra red light (heat) also contributes to this problem, as does visible light and other light sources. UV filter glass does not simply block UV light, leaving 60 per cent of your problem unaddressed. Instead, this glass targets UV light, visible light, and infra red to help reduce the transfer of both light and heat. An additional benefit of this type of glass is that reduction in these light sources can also reduce energy costs.

Self cleaning windows

Cleaning windows can be a hassle, especially if your windows only open outward, or are located high on your home where you cannot reach them conveniently. Self-cleaning glass may be the answer to this problem for your home.Self-cleaning glass is exactly what it sounds like: glass that cleans itself so you don’t have to. Hydrophobic self-cleaning glass rolls droplets across the window to perform the cleaning action while hydrophilic self-cleaning glass runs sheets of water across the window. Both window glass types have special coatings that assist them in breaking up dirt to leave your windows shiny and clear.The best part about self-cleaning glass is that it can be fitted into any of our windows and doors. This means that you can have this glass installed in your highest windows, or in every window to eliminate the need for weekly cleaning so you can move on with your life.

Laminated glass

Laminated glass is quickly becoming popular in areas where safety and security are a main concern in the home. If you have small children or are concerned about injuries from broken glass, then laminated glass windows could provide the solution you’ve been looking for. Laminated glass is a type of safety glass. The glass is made up of two layers of glass. In between these layers of glass is a thin interlayer made of polyvinyl butryal that acts almost like a sticker for the glass.

If wind, accidents, or other hazards cause your glass to break, the interlayer will keep the glass from shattering and keep your window intact until a replacement can be made. The most attractive benefit of laminated glass is that although it has extra protection, it looks exactly like a single pane piece of ordinary glass and is much harder to destroy during an attempted break-in.
