Soundproof Windows - Noise Reduction Windows
What Noise Reduction Window Solutions Are Available?
You have various options that can help combat the problem of noise pollution, the three most commonly available on the market are:
- Secondary glazing
- Noise reduction glass
- Nose reduction windows
Secondary Glazing (average)
This solution opts for the addition of a secondary sheet of glass which also dampens any noise disturbances. The cheapest option, noise reductions aren't as substantial as with other solutions, they can subtract value from your property and are often unsightly.

Noise Reduction Glass (good)
Manufactured to effectively dampen the pressure wave of the sound disturbance, this double glazing solution is more effective in combating noise pollution.
noise reduction: Good visual appearance:Good overall: Good
Noise Reduction Windows (best)
Incorporating noise reduction glass, these systems provide a superior level of noise reduction through a holistic and systematic approach to window design and installation.

How Do Soundproof Windows Work?
Sound is a pressure wave that is measured in decibels (dB), a logarithmic unit that increases exponentially, which denotes the power or intensity of the wave. Noise reduction glass is specifically designed to reduce this intensity by reducing the wave's power. It does this by utilising the naturally occurring resonant frequencies in two different thicknesses of glass.
Simply put; the wave is unable to resonate at the frequency, and with the power it wants to, effectively losing energy as it tries to pass through the panes. By utilising panes which have different thicknesses, noise reduction glass basically disturbs the sound wave, causing it to reduce in intensity before it gets into your house. As such, noise reduction glass offers reductions of 35 dB – 55 dB (and potentially more), which is a marked decrease when you consider the following:
- A difference of 1 dB is practically unnoticeable.
- A difference of 3 dB is just perceptible
- A difference of 5 dB represents a clear difference
- A difference of 10 dB perceptibly halves / doubles the noise.
If that's still confusing, put it like this – the optimal internal noise level for a living room or bedroom is around 30 dB. Disturbances from the outside world can take this up to 75 dB, which can be a real pain.
With our total solution, this needn’t be a concern any more. Levels will be reduced by half, back down to 30 dB, returning peace to your property.

Utilising a combination of timber which further reduce the noise. A combination of rubber and silicone seals to better absorb reverberation Placing noise dampening elements within the sash box to prevent noise penetrating through. Finishing elements with sound dampening materials Incorporating Pilkington and Saint Gobain noise reduction glass; the best glass manufacturers on the market for noise reduction. Unique installation and sealant method for complete protection.
The Best Solution For You
This total solution isn't required for all properties, with many homes that suffer from slight nuisances best off seeking out the cheaper and lest drastic option of installing secondary glazing, or replacing the glass.
